Prey Review

Prey Review

Not too long ago i reviewed Arkane Studio’s other game Dishonored 2, which was a good game, but rather short and didn’t have that great writing to be honest. Today im going to be looking at Prey, which is their new game – not to be confused with one that came out in 2006. Originally this was suppose to be Prey 2 but they scrapped the whole idea and made a new game and for some reason decided to keep the name.

In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station — your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities. The fate of the Talos I and everyone aboard is in your hands.

  • Sci-fi Thriller

Nothing is as it seems aboard Talos I. As Morgan Yu, set out to unravel the clues you’ve left behind for yourself, and discover the truth about your past. What role will you play in TranStar’s plans, and the mysterious threat ravaging the station?

  • Singular Setting

Orbiting the Moon, the Talos I space station symbolizes the height of private space enterprise. Explore a lavish craft designed to reflect corporate luxury of the 1960s, and navigate interconnected, non-linear pathways built to hide countless secrets.

  • Unimaginable Threat

The shadowy extraterrestrial presence infesting Talos I is a living ecology bent on annihilating its prey. It’s up to you, one of the last remaining survivors aboard the station, to end the deadly attack of these haunting predators.

  • Challenge

Customize your gameplay options and difficulty settings for an even more tailored adventure. You can make the experience more challenging (or easier) by changing a myriad of parameters related to stealth, movement and combat.

  • Play Your Way

Gain alien abilities to develop a distinct combination of powers and upgrade your unique skills. Craft increasingly useful items with the blueprints, gadgets and tools on board the station to overcome dangerous obstacles in your way. Survive unprecedented threats with your wits and ability to improvise.

Right now as of May 8th im not recommending to buy the game before they fix out some game-breaking bugs they have. For one NPC fell down the floor and had a keycard that i needed to use to progress forward, this ended up me loading a save that cost me ~6 hours of looting/exploring areas, which pissed me off to be honest. There was also some glitches with few sidequests, which i also found irritating

Despite its glitches and bugs its still a great game in terms of gameplay. Its not this super big masterpiece when it comes to a story, since main character doesn’t talk or anything. Some characters you meet throughout the story were rather bland and i think they intentionally even made some characters kinda ugly (Andromeda style). I’m hoping for a sequel but im not sure is that possible given the endings what i saw.

Better Stuff

  • It’s really fun to roam around the space station and find out different audio logs and secret hideouts
  • Skill Tree is nice and you can focus on different style of abilities & playstyles through it
  • Combat is neat & fluid
  • There are multiple endings in the game, which have different variations

Bad Stuff

  • As of right now game has some game-breaking bugs that need to be attended to
  • Not all characters were that interesting to be honest in terms of writing and visual design
  • No NewGame+
