DARK SOULS III – Ashes of Ariandel Review

DARK SOULS III – Ashes of Ariandel Review

It feels such a long time since Dark Souls 3 released, but that’s just mind playing with you since it came this year. But it did take somewhat long to push the first DLC out which is called Ashes of Ariandel (There is going to be another DLC release later on, no ETA yet however).

You, are the unkindled. As part of the Dark Souls™ III Season Pass, expand your Dark Souls™ III experience with the Ashes of Ariandel™ DLC pack. Journey to the snowy world of Ariandel and encounter new areas, bosses, enemies, weapons, armor set, magic spells and more. Will you accept the challenge and embrace the darkness once more?

If you do a quick run down on the features included on the DLC you can come into conclusion that its very PvP based DLC and you aren’t really wrong. For those who are gonna run it with a group of friends and not gonna do any PvP you are probably aren’t getting every penny out of the deal. The Single player experience is somewhere between 3-6h depending on your level. Recommended level to enter the zone is +80, but with group its lower obviously

The level design is rather OK, its not as megalithic as some of the other zones in the game, but it has few awing scenes i believe. There are some new mobs that are hard to kill and offer some challenge when clearing, especially when solo. As i mentioned on bullet points some of the weapons had really cool abilities and setups that make them really interesting for PvP purposes, but i don’t see a reason why you cannot use them on PvE as well.

While i think the DLC is bit overpriced (seems to be a trend these days, i guess i wish we could go back to Expansion Pack days) its still good deal if you pick up season pass, in a situation where you are bound to buy other DLC as well, so you save ~10$ or so. But yeah if money is bit tight this month, i don’t think you are missing on anything extraordinary right now.

  • Bosses had dialogue
  • New weapons were actually rather neat and had cool abilities
  • Solid Level design and bosses offered challenge as well
  • Hard Mobs

  • Rather short DLC in terms of gameplay hours
  • Not probably best buy if you are not going to do any PvP
  • Not that much connection with main story of the game overall
  • Bit overpriced
